German national handball player Markus Baur visits TUS Stuttgart
DEGERLOCH – With so many other leisure activities to choose from, handball has a hard time in a city like Stuttgart. A good enough reason for Markus Baur, member of Germany's national handball team and key player with German division leaders TBV Lemgo to pay the handball department at Stuttgart's sports centre a visit. On 3rd January, tus – Stuttgart's sport and athletics organisation – organised a special youth day which Markus Baur supported by paying a personal visit.
Some 80 young athletes attended the event, and they listened attentively as the 31-year-old handball player divulged some personal secrets and then led a training session for the participants. Michael Klauke, department manager, was able to organise the event because he and Baur used to play handball for the same club as teenagers. tus Stuttgart cooperates with schools in the area to try and introduce young people to this fun sport.
On Sunday, the young handball players visited the Schleyerhalle to support their idols at a national game. During Markus Baur's visit, Night&Day, Stuttgart's bed & breakfast agency, presented the tus handball club with a cheque worth 500 Euro for the promotion of the sport among young players. Night&Day sponsors a number of other activities and owner Markus Urban is also chairman of the promotional organisation.
At the end of the game, the kids were delighted when Baur autographed T-Shirts, trousers and even shoes. As a new honorary member of the promotional organisation, Markus Baur also signed the advertising banner in the Ruth-Endress hall. In future, this original signature can be admired at tus Stuttgart's home games.
